Are you ready to make a change in the energy transition and have a positive impact on the climate? Join the Unbound Potential (UP) team, a Swiss startup founded in 2023 by a group of passionate engineers, chemists, and economists from ETH Zürich.
We envision a resilient electrified society, independent not only from fossil fuels, but also from critical mined materials, such as Lithium-ion or Vanadium. How can we reach that goal? By developing a disruptive innovative solution: a membrane-less redox flow battery that works exclusively with organic chemistry. Despite the name, our system is the simplest large-scale stationary energy storage you can imagine, usable by energy-intensive industries as well as energy utilities seeking cheap and sustainable energy storage solutions.
As a Junior Chemical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the development and characterization of membrane-less redox flow battery.
What you will do:
- Setting up and monitoring electrochemical experiments.
- Optimizing KPI evaluation: maximum power, limiting current, coulombic efficiency, energetic efficiency, RTE, self-discharge etc.
- Evaluating data from experiments to formulate reports/presentations and maintain our database.
- Analytics and basic synthesis in the laboratory.
-
Preparing solutions and working with hazardous materials, such as acids and organic chemicals.
- Conducting physico-chemical analysis and characterization of electrolytes and electrodes.
- Preparing and maintaining laboratory equipment (potentiostat/galvanostat, pH- conductivity-meter, oven etc.).
- Designing and engineering flow set-ups compatible with our chemical system.
- Trouble-shooting technical issues in the laboratory, coming up with industrial standard solutions for hardware development.
What you will bring:
-
Master’s degree (Uni/FH) in chemical engineering or process engineering.
-
Practical skills and hands on in the chemical laboratory, especially working on electrochemical systems and/or flow reactors.
-
Solution-oriented mindset, willing to do practical work, iteration and testing.
- Optimization of the work routine by implementing protocols.
-
Experience in handling analytical and electrochemical equipment.
- Good chemical laboratory practices.
- Experience in quality control (desirable but not mandatory).
- Strong interest in electrochemical energy conversion systems (desirable but not mandatory).
You are
- Solution-oriented person, willing to do a change and take up the challenges.
- Motivated to work in a dynamic, high-performance, collaborative, young and fun start-up environment.
- Strongly interested in the climate-tech space.
- Independent and detail-oriented.
- Passionate about driving the renewable energy transition.
- Excellent team player.
- Fluent in English.
