Industrial Automation / Electrical Engineer

Thalwil, Switzerland

Join Unbound Potential (UP) — a Swiss startup founded in 2023 by a team of passionate engineers, chemists, and economists from ETH Zürich.

We envision a resilient, electrified society — one that is not only independent from fossil fuels, but also free from critical mined materials like lithium and vanadium. How will we get there? By developing a disruptive, innovative solution: a membrane-less redox flow battery powered entirely by organic chemistry. Despite the name, our system is one of the simplest large-scale stationary energy storage solutions imaginable — scalable, cost-effective, and sustainable — perfect for energy-intensive industries and utilities.

We are currently expanding our excellent team of disrUPtors and looking for exceptional talent to join our mission. If you’ve ever been truly passionate with something — tech, academia, sport, art — and pushed yourself to the edge of excellence, you know what it takes. That’s what we care about. We’re building a team of dreamers and builders who are all-in on doing something unique and making a meaningful impact on society.

If you feel that same urgency and ambition to shape a better world — you belong here.

As an industrial automation or electrical engineer on our Engineering Team you will play a key role in developing, building, and scaling our technology. In particular, you will be in charge of operating and upgrading the current test stand and, in collaboration with our industrial partners, designing and developing of our first pilot battery system.

  • Support the team on automation-related topics, ranging from lab setups (e.g., Arduino) to full-scale PLC implementations.
  • Collaborating with mechanical and chemical engineers on system design.
  • Document and continuously improve system designs and outsourcing strategies.

  • Strong communication skills — both with internal interdisciplinary teams and external collaborators and partners.
  • Experienced in authoring processes, safety standards, and high-quality documentation.
  • Experience with electrical CAD (e.g., EPLAN) is a plus, but not mandatory.
  • Desirable: knowledge of fluid dynamics and fluid distribution systems and experience in batteries or similar/related systems.

You are

  • Excited to work in a dynamic, high-performance, collaborative, and fun startup environment.
  • Able to quickly adapt to evolving priorities and goals.
