Meet the founders & Board of Management
Unbound Potential was founded on a shared vision: to revolutionize energy storage and accelerate the transition to renewables. At the helm is Dr. David Taylor, who worked on heavy-duty battery cooling systems at ETH Zürich, when he started to think about novel battery concepts. In 2021 he gathered pioneering minds for late-hour sessions at the ETH Student Project house. Captivated by membrane-less flow batteries and determined to create impact, the group rapidly built entrepreneurial momentum and transformed into today’s unique founding team that has been successfully working together over the past four years:
Dr. David Taylor, CEO
Dr. David Taylor is the CEO and co-founder of Unbound Potential GmbH, leading the innovation of energy storage solutions for the energy transition. Holding a PhD in Microsystems and Nanotechnology from EPFL, he has gained expertise through research at ETH Zurich, UCSB, GE and IBM Research.
Under his leadership, Unbound Potential has grown rapidly, securing CHF 8M in funding and expanding its team to over 25 employees. David’s technical background in microfabrication and advanced modeling, combined with his experience in fundraising and team building, has been instrumental in positioning his startup as a leading force in sustainable energy solutions. He is committed to driving the transition to renewable energy through practical, scalable technologies that make a real impact on global energy challenges.
Pier Giuseppe Rivano, CBO
Pier Giuseppe is Co-Founder and Chief Business Officer at Unbound Potential, where he leads activities in business development, customer relations, market research, and techno-economic analysis. His work has been central to defining the positioning of the company on the market and a clear roadmap for the commercialization of the technology establishing partnerships with early adopters and strategic stakeholders.
His experience allows him to align the company's technological developments and target KPIs with market needs.
Dr. Emilio Dal Re, CFO
Dr. Emilio Dal Re is an environmental economist with a strong foundation in business administration and finance (MSc) from Bocconi University, and a PhD in economics with specialization on climate-change mitigation policies and impact assessment from the University of Zurich. He is the co-founder and CFO of Unbound Potential, where he oversees financial strategy, organizational development, and people & culture initiatives.
Emilio is impact-driven and a firm believer in innovation as the driver of economic prosperity. His commitment to climate change mitigation stems from first-hand work experiences in diverse international contexts.
Dr. Federico Paratore, CSE
Dr. Federico Paratore is Co-founder and Chief of Science and Engineering at Unbound Potential. He leads the development and scale-up of its next-generation flow battery technology, positioning the company at the forefront of both the scientific field and the flow batteries industry.
With over a decade of R&D experience across IBM Research and academia, Federico is committed to accelerating the transition to a sustainable energy future—he bridges the gap between fundamental research and product development.
Dr. Anetta Platek-Mielczarek, CTO
Dr. Anetta Platek-Mielczarek is a chemist and energy storage specialist, focusing on the development of advanced electrochemical systems. As the Co-Founder and CTO of Unbound Potential GmbH, she leads the development of membrane-less redox flow batteries, optimizing biphasic electrolyte systems and their electrochemical interactions with carbon-based electrode materials. Her work is dedicated to advancing scalable, high-performance energy storage solutions for long-duration applications.
Anetta is committed to developing efficient, scalable, and sustainable energy storage technologies that contribute to a more resilient energy future.
